Getting Promoted offers a strategy and tips for getting promoted at your government job.  Promotions are made much as the jobs are filled in government jobs, through an examination process that may include one or more of the following tests - written test, oral interview, and performance test.

GET IT DONE IN THE CLASSROOM

  1. You've covered on the job development, now look for formal training or development opportunities.  Formal training or development opportunities may include in-house classes and outside seminars.
  2. Look for distance learning opportunities to build your skills, knowledges and abilities.  Here are a few we've found:

    ForeFront Direct, offers a free IT course among 22 selected courses and sample questions from exams.

    Digital University offers a free sampling of on-line courses.  Past offerings include PowerPoint, e-commerce, and Internet Security.

    Fiber optics - learn online free.

    Information technology downloadable sample courseware.

    Introduction to Java from IBM is a free Internet-based online class.

    Microsoft offers free sample chapters available as a way for you to try out the award-winning Mastering Series online. Chapters include Visual Basic 6, Office 97 Development, and Web Site Fundamentals.

    Web design and construction - free online courses (backend, Java, e-commerce, HTML and more) from webmonkey.
